Accountability Made Easy - 2019 Temperature Blanket

Accountability Made Easy - 2019 Temperature Blanket

When Toni from TL Yarn Crafts announced her intention to complete a temperature blanket in 2019, I had to jump on the bandwagon. [If you aren’t familiar with temperature blankets, check out Toni’s video on what they are and why you should make one!] I’d thought about making one for years, but I was lacking inspiration until she revealed her colors. Goodbye rainbow, hello gorgeous warm tones! Her cute little bouquet of yarn inspired me to choose a color palette that fits my personality and my home. I picked up some delicious cool tones in Cloudborn Fibers Pima Cotton DK to work up my year in yarn and I couldn’t be happier with my choice. It’s lustrous, soft, and comes in an AMAZING array of colors.

I didn’t want to be that person who starts a temperature blanket with gusto, then falls out of love with it long before it’s finished. Therefore, to make sure this didn’t happen, I needed to have a few things in line.

  1. I need to love my yarn.

  2. I need to be happy with my pattern.

  3. I need to have an accountability system.

The first two were easy. I chose an amazing yarn and the most classic temperature blanket stitch, but sometimes the accountability thing is really hard for me. I’m a huge procrastinator and if I’m not wholeheartedly passionate about a project, it just won’t get done. Therefore, the only way I was going to be excited about keeping myself accountable was by making my own adorable record keeping system.

I found Canva a few years ago and I completely fell in love with it. It’s the perfect medium for working up business cards, making advertisements, writing patterns, and making your own Happy Planner pages!

This is what I came up with to keep myself organized:

I don’t know about you, but I forget things… a lot. If I start a project and have to put it down for too long, there is a definite possibility that I will forget the details. Therefore, the first page became an a source for all the specifics that could slip my mind throughout the course of a year. It also outlines which yarn color is associated with which temperature range.

The next twelve pages outline the date, temperature, progress, and location for each month. Because I travel so much during the summer, I chose to make this blanket about my journey throughout the year, not just a record of the temperatures occurring in my home town. Therefore, I use the high temperature of the day from wherever I happen to land that night.

The third set of pages are a summary of temperatures throughout the week. It’s fun to see the range and how it progresses throughout the month.

The final page is a monthly tally of each temperature range and spots to record the final yardage and size of the blanket. This is going to be such an awesome page when it’s finished and definitely one I’ll be keeping for future reference.
